I noticed with pleasure Tim Woodbridge’s article on Don Messer and am glad that he mentioned myself as the author of the biography on Don Messer, but I could not fine the title of the book mentioned anywhere. Nor could I access part 1 of his article.
Are you able to send me the entire article, and if you have not mentioned the title of the book in the first part, I would really appreciate a mention of it in the next issue.
Thank you and all the best,
Johanna Bertin
My apologies. I did find part one of the article on Don Messer, but there was again no mention of the title of my book which is widely referred to in the article. “Don Messer: the Man behind the Music” was published in July 2009 by Goose Lane Editions, Fredericton, NB.
It was an absolute pleasure to research the material for this book, during which I interviewed more than 100 people including members of his audience, family, other fiddlers, producers of his television show, family members of his musicians, and surviving members of his band.
I’d love to hear from people who have read the book.
I am looking to purchase the fiddle score for the Devil went down to Georgia by the Charlie Daniels band, but trying to get hold of it in the UK is a nigthmare and basicaly a no no.
Every country in Europe seems to have rediscovered its own vital tradition of fiddle music, except England ... But, English fiddle music forms an important, yet neglected, part of the mosaic of Old and New World fiddle styles...
